I’ve been struggling since I had B. It’s been a glorious, yet tiresome half of a year and I’m FINALLY transitioning to feeling like myself again. When I started writing I was younger and my interest were all that mattered. While my interests are still the same, I’ve grown a lot and some new ones have piled on the old ones. I can’t help but find conflicting emails in my inbox like “ Kylie Jenner just trademarked ‘riiise and shiiine’” followed by an email that says “Best Baby Purée machines 2019”. So I’ve been in a slump as far as what to write, talk, and post about. I figured it’s something all creatives go through but a six month dry spell is almost as bad as us waiting for Frank Ocean to drop a new album. It just might..not..happen.
How to get out of a creative slump? Just start creating. I started to realize that this new phase of my life doesn’t have to box me in. I can talk about my mixed feelings about Kanye’s new album “Jesus is King”. I can put y’all up to speed on how sleep training is going with my kiddo. I can have a killer workout and update you on the postpartum body progress and give you a simultaneous review on Empathy Wines new red, ( It’s FUCKING FIRE BY THE WAY). I can keep saying the word “fuck” and listening to the music I want to because that’s just me. Becoming a parent or transitioning to a new phase of your life doesn’t mean you have to stop and take a step back to figure out who you should be. It doesn’t mean you have to stop doing or creating the things you used to enjoy. It doesn’t mean you have to fight off the new things you find interesting. You don’t have to start dressing a new way, talking a certain way, or subscribe to any other social behavior they tell you. You should do you! But not just read this, listen to some motivational podcast, and post an inspirational quote on Facebook, ACTUALLY DO IT! Remember why you enjoy the things that make you happy. Set time aside to do those things, it’s what keeps the flame burning. It’s what keeps you from saying “Yo, that shits dope!” instead of “That’s trash!”. You create because it’s what your heart says to do. Stop overthinking because, I am.
Forget about your color scheme, posting dates, what everyone else thinks is hype at the moment. Stop questioning where you fit in because 99.9 percent of the time you’ve always been a multitude of things that never really found a group to “fit into”. The last few post are a mix of business, a recent collab I did the 4Moms, and my continuous journey of wanting to be “fit”, but not putting down tacos. That’s me. We’re complex, you guys. There’s levels to this shit. I’ve become increasingly obsessed with TikTok this past week. Yes, my 13 year old niece is mortified too, but there’s something refreshing about a social media app that’s actually social and not pretentious or clout heavy. It made creating fun again. My twitter fingers have been heavy. I’m on episode 7 of my podcast, and while I still find myself a bit creatively on the fence as to what’s next; I’m not letting it hold me back anymore. What got me here is creating. So stop obsessing and have fun! If “likes” is what you’re afraid of, you can definitely count on mine!
The Friendly Kick in the Ass You Needed,
Six months have flown by and while you still see your little bundle of joy as a teeny tiny baby, they’re growing right before your eyes and are now ready for solids.
Pause the time,please!
Whether you’re puréeing your babies new entrees or simply starting with cereal, the hunt for the perfect high chair commences.
We searched high and low before choosing the 4 Moms High Chair initially for the magnetic tray (pause for reaction) , but there’s so many other factors that reassure us at every feeding that we made the right choice.
The 4 Moms High Chair has a modern design chic enough to fit any “cool moms” kitchen. The chair has three adjustable heights and isn’t like your traditional high chair that takes up a ton of space. Not that your little ones toys haven’t taken over your place already. The best part of the high chair has to be the magnetic tray. In comparison to other chairs it just makes more sense to go the 4Moms route. The magnetic tray is easy to clean and comes with a magnetic bowl to start you’re solid food journey. We haven’t mastered the love of veggies yet , but with all the high chair has to offer, our feeding times are more efficient, fun, and easy to clean up. No flipped bowls here! At least not yet!
All this being said I’d highly recommend the 4Moms High Chair. Happy half birthday to your little one and best of luck of your solid food ventures!
All my lovin’,
When they said “kids are expensive” I felt that more than ever trying to pick the right stroller. Is it safe? Is it practical? Wait, they outgrow this one, when? I have to buy another one? 😂 There’s so many options when it comes to strollers and when I talked to most moms they said they had a minimum of three. One for travel, one for outings, one for shopping, and a completely separate one for working out. I CAN’T!
The Doona is the one stop shop for all of my personal needs. Living downtown, everything is close by which is great but parking can be tricky. Once you find a spot getting in and out with ease is the goal. It aches my heart seeing moms struggle to get their little one in and out with a bulky stroller and car seat in tow. The Doona is the only car seat that converts into a stroller in 5 second! Five seconds!!! It’s compact, chic, safe, and flight approved which is awesome because we definitely plan on traveling with our little guy soon.
There’s so many benefits to getting a Doona and our little guy absolutely loves it which is a huge plus. It’s so convenient and makes outings a breeze. The material is breathable, just in time for summer, the cover protects my little one and I feel at ease knowing he’s not only safe, but comfortable. If I could recommend one must have item for new moms, the Doona would be it. It’s been a lifesaver in our household. I’ll leave a link below to check it out.
All my lovin’,
I wish they had put fine print in every baby book I read…
Or perhaps a huge bulletin board outside of each birth class we attended…something along the lines of
“We know you’re doing everything to prepare for this small human. We would like you to know NOTHING is going to go as planned and everything you didn’t expect to happen, will!” 😂
I was prepared for the sleepless nights, the cluster feedings, the physical pain, and the wash of emotions that were going to flood our household but the first two nights at home were tough! Berlin would wake up every 45 minutes. He hated his bassinet. My husband and I were up til the sun rose trying to soothe him. That’s 48hours of fussiness mixed with rollercoaster of emotions from two new, very inexperienced parents. You begin to feel like you’re failing and are pulling out all your notes those baby books swore by. Day 3 we pulled out the MamaRoo. Ten minutes later we had a brand new baby. He rocked for ten minutes and dozed off to the sounds of the rain the MamaRoo played. 15 minutes later when we put him in his bassinet he was asleep for FOUR HOURS! A much needed break for us sleep deprived parents. I couldn’t believe it. No where in the baby books did it say “If swaying your baby doesn’t work…if he doesn’t like the rocking chair…if what you’re doing isn’t working, pull out the MamaRoo.” Well here I am folks! Three weeks postpartum with a baby that is now sleeping 4.5 hours after he has a little time in the MamaRoo. I don’t know what it is, magic? There’s a reason why so many recommend it. We use it when we need our hands free or to prep our baby for a nap. So when three in the morning rolls around and our little one is fighting his sleep, dad secures him in the Mamaroo, mom’s on the couch, I pick up my phone hit the Kangaroo setting on 4 and the Rain sounds on 3 and our little one is relaxed. He’ll fuss for about a minute before getting distracted by the high contrast black and white mobile. As those eyes get heavy we cue the Rain Sounds and a few minutes later it’s lights out!
I’m still new to this mom thing, but I love it and although I swore to myself I was going to take a 3 month break from writing I had to share! If this can help another sleepless mom out then my job is done! Thanks for reading babes!
All my lovin’,
4moms is running an awesome sale just in time for mothers day. I left the link above.
I didn’t want to love it all. Truly,I didn’t! Loving new skincare products means more money spent and y’all know I pride myself on sticking with what works, but….
this stuff is better than the hype.
My skin has been doing that really adorable thing where it’s dry in some areas, grossly oily in others, and “Hello there fine lines! I guess this is what your late 20’s looks like.” 😳😂. I’ve had so many problem areas I didn’t know where to start. The watermelon mask came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The cool thing about the Glow Recipe masks is that they’re pillow friendly. To get the most out of the masks you want to put a small amount all over and sleep in it. Wake up with plump hydrated skin? Sign me up! I’ve used this mask every night for the past week, topped off my skin with the Watermelon Glow Pink Juice moisturizer during the day, and my skin is finally loving me again. I’ve noticed a huge difference in texture, hydration, and less visibility of fine lines. All products are paraben free and packed with hyaluronic acid (aka the good stuff that leaves your skin plump and youthful looking). So yes, I’m saying it. This $45 mask is worth it!Summer is upon us and I don’t know about you, but skipping makeup in this heat is the ultimate goal! My skin is so smooth and supple. All I need is a glossy lip, moisturizer, a little spot concealing and I’m out the door. I may not have my summer body in time, but my skin? My skin will be FLAWLESS!
Thanks for reading babies!
All my lovin,
Looking for a new spot this weekend? Bisou, Clé Groups newest concept, has quickly climbed to the top of Houston’s Hottest New Restaurants. Located in the River Oaks Shopping District, Bisou merges fine dining with a luxe nightclub experience.
With the infamous “It was just a kiss” neon sign at the entrance, lights covering the room, and the DJ playing all your upbeat favorites it’s hard not give in and let loose. Paved with marble tiles and plush velvet seating, Bisou’s interior design is all around jaw dropping. Matte gold cutlery, contemporary lighting fixtures throughout the restaurant, and Instagram worthy mirrors in the restroom entrance that you and your girls will just HAVE to get a photo in front of.
We took a tour of the menu that left us absolutely speechless. I’m a normal southern girl so calling my palate “limited” is a huge understatement, not to mention French Cuisine has always been intimidating to me.
We started with pork belly dumplings glazed with ginger sauce . The chef said it was slow cooked for about 6-8 hours and oh my god you guys,it had to be the best pork I’ve ever tasted. We tried the beet salad, if you’re not a fan of beets try it anyway, something about the citrus of the blood orange paired with their goat cheese moose that was unlike anything I’d ever had before. The Lobster Bisque was probably the best I ever tasted but my absolute favorite dish was the lobster beignets. They’re out of this world.I couldn’t indulge in all the fresh sushi, which was probably the hardest thing I’ve done so far in 2019, but I did enjoy their lobster sushi roll. It was fresh and absolutely delicious so when we go back that’s definitely a re-order.We finished the appetizer section with the Yellowtail Sashimi and Pan Seared Foie Gras. The servers were amazing at explaining what each dish was and being ever so patient with me when I asked (at least four times) if I was pronouncing “foie gras” correctly 😂.
In the midst of tasting all of Bisou’s goodness the lights were gradually dimming and the bottles with sparklers were starting to fill the room. By about 9pm the DJ pumped up the bass and the party was in full swing. Chef Frédéric Perrier was kind enough to stop by and give us a little more insight on the restaurant as well as his favorites on the menu. With 40+ years in the industry and an impressive restaurant lineup that includes Aura and the ever-so- trendy 51Fifteen in Saks. When I asked him for his personal favorites he suggested the Wagyu Tartare Bites and the Escargot. Chef Frédéric described Bisou as an experience who saw their food getting progressively better. Well said,Chef!
Bisou was an experience, indeed and the food was outstanding. I was completely blown away.We can’t wait to go back and experience Bisou’s Brunch. If you haven’t stopped in to Bisou yet, I would highly recommend it. It’s the perfect date night, girls night, or regular Saturday night to unwind and you’ll never know who you’ll see in there. I don’t want to name names but if it’s good enough for “Clyde the Glide” it has to be hall of fame worthy 😉.
Thanks for reading!
How am I still a tourist in my own city? When you think of the Houston Galleria area you think of the shopping and completely forget about everything else the location has to offer. Fine dining, 5 star hotels, and new experiences right at your fingertips. Royal Sonesta is the perfect place to stay in the Galleria Area. The staff is incredible! We stayed during one of the busiest weekends. The Houston Rodeo was in full swing, a business summit was being held, and a huge wedding was happening in the ballroom. Somehow amidst all the chaos, we were treated like royalty. We arrived at our freshly cleaned room on the 23rd floor with chocolates on the pillows, robes ready to lounge in, and a view overlooking the city lights. The hotel amenities have everything you need so while traffic dies down you can 🍷 “wine down” and grab a cocktail at the Axis Lounge. This modern designed bar is located conveniently on the first floor offering a wide selection of cocktails and chic seating, making it a great pit stop before you start your night out. Need a quick bite but want to keep it light? Launch is a convenient “grab and go” meal area that’s stocked with fresh food, coffee, and toiletries for sale because let’s me honest…90% of the time you left the toothpaste on the cpunter at home. Chips and cookies before your bathing suit isn’t ideal pre-pool lounging so being able to grab a healthy snack before soaking up the sun at the hotel’s pool was super convenient.
Speaking of convenience can we talk about the jaw dropping Club Lounge on the 23rd floor? The area is exclusively available to patrons on the 23rd floor offering complimentary snacks, water, sodas, big screen TVs and continental breakfast. With mid floor to ceiling windows it’s hard to not take your phone out and snap a few photos of a rare view from up top. Talk about living the high life.
We decided to take advantage of room service and pre-order our breakfast in bed. Eggs Benedict, Raisin Brioche French Toast, and a large fruit plate? Yes,please! Probably not the breakfast of champions a physical trainer would approve of, but you’re on vacation! Enjoy yourself! Not only is the food from the Ara Restaurant delicious but the presentation was superb! You’re not going to NOT take a brunch photo for Instagram, am I right? Overall I’d say our stay was amazing and I’d highly recommend it to visitors of the city and fellow Houstonians. You won’t be disappointed. Royal Sonesta goes above and beyond to make your stay worthwhile.

When the doctor said it could take anywhere from 1-2 years to conceive I thought “Cool. We still have so much time to travel and focus on our careers.”.
When we found out I was pregnant we were ecstatic. My husband and I have never cried happy tears for 30 minutes straight, but that’s exactly what was happening in the middle of our kitchen on a regular Wednesday just days after our vacation from Puerto Rico. Of course after the excitement settles the realization of “Wow! We’re bringing a human into this world.” sets in and a million thoughts flood your brain.
Two weeks before finding out I was expecting I got confirmation that I would be covering Paris Fashion Week.A dream so big I hadn’t even imagined it was possible and now it seemed it’d be impossible to make happen. How selfish, right? How could I think such things when this was a moment we had hoped for one day. How could I have the nerve to be upset about the timing of getting pregnant so soon when people wait years to conceive? What was wrong with me? In all honesty those few days after finding out I was pregnant I felt selfishly conflicted. My writing career was reaching new peaks and I found myself in a panic of how I would make things happen. Would I still be “me” after this amazing baby? How could I manage? Would my career still be the same? I instantly thought returning back to my corporate job or finishing grad school were the only choices I had. Thank god for my husband. I’m so thankful for his support and belief in my writing career. He’s been there from the beginning and has seen me start from scratch and really make things happen.
Fast forward to today, I’m 9 months and COULD NOT BE HAPPIER. I’m now a writer for not one, but three magazines. THREE! My point of sharing is this, worrying does not propel you forward. It does not serve us or ignite our faith. Worrying doesn’t give you the mindset you need to accomplish your goals and get things done. We can’t allow our worrying to overpower us and scare us out of doing, what most would deem, the impossible. What if I would’ve gave up? What if I would’ve given into my fears and went back to the safe route? I wouldn’t have gotten the opportunities I have now. This entire creative process would have been incomplete journey all because of my own self sabotage. When we embrace these changes and new steps in our life we allow new blessings, new opportunities, and a new flow of positive energy. I’m still unsure of how I can “Do it all and have it all”, but I’m sure of one thing, I can try. I can make a conscious effort to wake up every morning with a positive mindset and only allow positive energy into my day. I’m challenging all of you brilliant souls to do the same. Commit to a different approach. Stop worrying about things out of your control because guess what? Bigger and better always comes along and things work themselves out at the appropriate timing so keep pushing baby. Those things that excite you are not a coincidence they are apart of your purpose.
Thank you all for being so supportive.
All my lovin’
Houston has been getting all the love lately. From Drake letting us stream all of “So Far Gone” (cues Nov. 18th) , to Travis Scott taking over with Astroworld, to Solange’s latest album paying homage to her hometown. The city’s ego HAS to be as big as our traffic lanes at this point .
The album titled “When I get home” has been released for less than 16hours and is already creating a huge buzz. I personally appreciate artists who create a full body of work versus single, after single and Solange delivered once again. This album is just as good as “A seat at the table”, possibly better. The best part? Solange is sharing listening parties all throughout Third Ward this Sunday March 3rd. I’ll link it below to snag your spot.
